 The Cardinals have won four of the first seven matchups of the season with the Reds, and are 13-4 in their last 17 games in Cincinnati. In this year's meetings, St. Louis is averaging 5.8 runs in its four wins but just 1.3 runs per game in its three defeats.

 The Cardinals haven't scored in double digits since beating the Royals 10-3 on May 22. This stretch of 45 consecutive games of failing to score in double digits is the longest active streak in the majors, and only the fourth time since 2010 the Cardinals have had such a streak of at least 45 games.

 Tyler O'Neil went 7-for-12 with three homers and 6 RBI in the Cardinals' last series with the Pirates. He's batting .400 with four home runs and 11 RBI this month, and only the Marlins' Starlin Castro (7) has more multi-hit games in July than O'Neil's 6.

 Paul Goldschmidt has four homers and 12 RBI in his last nine games after totaling four home runs and eight RBI in previous 44 contests. Since his first full season in the majors in 2012, Goldschmidt's 121 RBI in July trail only Albert Pujols (133) and Mike Trout (129) for the most in MLB.

 The Reds have hit a major league-low 130 doubles this season, and haven't finished a season last in MLB in doubles since 1928, when they were tied with the Brooklyn Robins with 229. The Cardinals, meanwhile, have surrendered a major league-low 135 doubles, and they haven't finished a season having allowed the fewest two-baggers in MLB since 1997, when they were tied with the Marlins with 232 permitted.

 Yasiel Puig hit his 22nd homer of the season on Monday, and is now slashing .363/.409/.775 with nine home runs and 20 RBI in 22 games since June 19. That 1.184 OPS is the best in the NL since June 19 among the 73 batters with at least 80 plate appearances.

The St. Louis Cardinals are off to a hot start following the All-Star break, and they'll try to maintain the momentum when they face the host Cincinnati Reds again Saturday night.

Yasiel Puig hit a game-tying double to end Miles Mikolas' shutout bid, VanMeter followed with his first major league home run and the Cincinnati Reds snapped a four-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday.
