 St. Louis and San Francisco meet for the first time this season. The Cardinals have won nine of the last 12 meetings between the two teams, with their starting pitchers boasting a 2.93 ERA over that stretch. Miles Mikolas, scheduled to start Saturday, has a 1.46 ERA in five career appearances against the Giants.

 The Giants have scored 40 combined runs in their last four games for the second time in the last 15 seasons (40 in 2014). Their four-game streak of scoring at least seven runs is San Francisco's longest since 2006.

 Entering the series, the Cardinals have scored five or fewer runs in 11 straight games, the longest active streak in baseball and the franchise's longest such streak since 2016 (13 games). This is the first time Longoria has had at least four homers and 10 RBI over any four-game span in his career, and his 1.848 OPS is his third highest in a four-game stretch in a single season (minimum 10 plate appearances).

 Paul Goldschmidt, who hit .324 against left-handers in his career with Arizona, is hitting .226 against left-handed pitching in 2019, his lowest average in any season with at least 50 plate appearances against lefties. Goldschmidt has a career .999 OPS against Madison Bumgarner, scheduled to start Saturday.

 The Giants have scored 4.95 runs per game on the road this season, compared to 3.33 per game at home. That difference of -1.62 is the largest negative difference between home and away scoring in MLB.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP)  Evan Longoria blamed himself for being overly aggressive in his first two at-bats against St. Louis pitcher Jack Flaherty, a byproduct of the spacious field at Oracle Park and Flaherty's dominance early on.
The third time around, San Francisco's slugging third baseman slowed down just enough to catch up to one of the few mistakes Flaherty made.
