The Padres have won four straight and are over .500 through 75 games for the first time in six years. During a 5-1 surge, San Diego has batted .332 with 29 extra-base hits, including 10 homers. The Padres lost five of their previous six while hitting .233 with 15 extra-base hits.

Pittsburgh is just 7-16 against NL West opponents for the worst record of any NL team vs. the NL West despite winning three of four at San Diego from May 16-19. Pirates starting pitchers limited the Padres to a .176 batting average in that series.

Manny Machado is batting .486 with four homers and nine RBI during an eight-game hitting streak. He's raised his batting average 32 points to .270, its highest since early April. Machado, though, is hitting .116 lifetime against the Pirates, by far his worst against any opponent.

Bryan Reynolds had his 18th multi-hit effort in 53 games this season on Wednesday and is tied for fifth in the majors with a .393 average in June (minimum 50 plate appearances). Since 1990, only Yasiel Puig (.376 in 2013) had a higher average among rookies through the first 53 games of a career than Reynolds' .362.

With a home ERA of 2.70 and a road ERA of 7.81, Eric Lauer's (5.11) differential is the second-largest in MLB, trailing only Miles Mikolas (5.21). He limited the Bucs to one earned run over 5.2 innings in a no-decision at Petco Park on May 16.

Joe Musgrove, a San Diego native, is 2-0 with a 2.03 ERA in two career starts against his hometown team. Since posting a 1.64 ERA in his first five starts this season, Musgrove has a 7.59 ERA in his past nine.
