 The Tigers have lost four straight, scoring nine runs in those four games while allowing 32. Since May 13, the Tigers have been outscored by 85 runs, worst in MLB.

 The Pirates return home after going 2-8 on their 10-game road trip, where they posted a 6.32 ERA. However, their home ERA this season is 5.43, second highest in the NL behind the Rockies (6.32).

 Since the start of last season, the Pirates are 22-7 in interleague play, best in MLB. They are hitting .271 in interleague games since then, second best in baseball behind only the Cubs (.286).

 Miguel Cabrera is hitting .351 with two home runs this month -- he had two home runs from March to May this season. His average and slugging has increased to .294 and .394, respectively, on the season, but that .100 isolated power (slugging minus average) is the fifth lowest among qualified hitters.

 Bryan Reynolds' .394 average since May 15 is the best in baseball (minimum 100 plate appearances). This includes hitting .412 versus right-handed pitchers since then, best in MLB (minimum 50 PA).

 The Tigers are swinging at 50.4 percent of pitches this season, highest in MLB. The Pirates are third in this category, swinging at 49.3 percent of pitches.

Losing has been an unwelcome theme for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers, who will start a two-game interleague series Tuesday at PNC Park.
The Tigers have lost four straight and are 3-11 this month. The Pirates lost the first seven games of a road trip before taking two of three at Miami over the weekend.

Slumping Tigers aim to rebound vs. Pirates

PITTSBURGH (AP)  Christin Stewart's sped his thinking up and slowed down his feet, helping the Detroit Tigers end a four-game losing streak in the process.
Stewart was on first with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth inning of a tie game on Tuesday night when Brandon Dixon hit a sharp grounder to Pittsburgh second baseman Adam Frazier. Rather than keep on sprinting to second, Stewart hesitated as he neared Frazier. Frazier tried futilely to tag Stewart before throwing to first. Nicholas Castellanos scored from third on the play to give Detroit a 5-4 lead it would hold on to - barely - to win for just fourth time this month.
