 The Angels won six of seven meetings with the Royals last season, holding them to 2.71 runs per game. It was a reversal of the 2017 season, when Kansas City had the same 6-1 record against the Angels.

 Los Angeles won for just the second time in its last 11 games on Thursday versus the Yankees, 11-5, tying a season high in runs scored. The Angels moved to 8-7 in home games this year but are an MLB-worst 2-9 (.182) on the road.

 The Royals are the third team in MLB history to be 8-17 or worse and also have 33 or more home runs through 25 games in a season, joining the 1953 Reds and last year's White Sox.

 Kansas City leads the majors with 11 triples, and Adalberto Mondesi leads all players with four. The last Royal to lead the majors in the category was Jose Offerman with 13 in 1998.

 Tommy La Stella has a team-high seven home runs this year, after homering just 10 times in over 800 career at-bats entering 2019. The only other left-handed batters to hit seven or more homers before the end of April with the Angels are Fred Lynn (seven in 1983) and Jim Edmonds (eight in 1996).

 Tyler Skaggs will make his first start tonight since going on the 10-day IL April 15 with a left ankle sprain. In three career starts against the Royals, he is 1-1 with a 0.43 ERA, allowing just one run in 21.0 innings.

After a needed day off, the Kansas City Royals return home for the start of a three-game series on Friday against the Los Angeles Angels. In the process, they'll welcome back an old friend.
Left-hander Danny Duffy will make his first start of the season after beginning the season on the 10-day injured list with left shoulder impingement syndrome. He had one appearance at Double-A Northwest Arkansas (5 1/3 innings, four hits, one unearned run and seven strikeouts). It was enough, according to Duffy.

Angels, Royals welcoming pitchers back to rotation

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)  Albert Pujols added another milestone to his stellar career.
Pujols hit a two-run homer in the first inning and moved past Lou Gehrig into fourth place on the career RBIs list, and Tyler Skaggs pitched five shutout innings as the Los Angeles Angels beat the Kansas City Royals 5-1 Friday night.
