 Boston has won 10 of its last 11 meetings with the Diamondbacks, most recently a three-game sweep at home in 2016. The Red Sox have the best record of any MLB team in interleague play all-time (243-160, .603) and since 2017 (32-8, .800).

 Boston's 2-6 start is the worst by a defending World Series champion since the Marlins opened 1-7 in 1998, and the worst by a defending World Series champ from the AL since the Orioles in 1984 (2-6).

 Arizona had scored at least five runs in every game this season before Wednesday's 4-1 loss in San Diego. The six-game streak with five or more runs tied their longest all-time to start a season (also 2005).

 David Peralta leads the majors in hits (15) and doubles (7). He has hit safely in all seven games, and has two doubles in each of the last three -- the first D-back all-time with three straight multi-double games.

 Rick Porcello allowed nine runs (four earned) in 2.2 innings in Sunday's loss at Seattle. It was his first time allowing that many runs in a start of less than 3.0 innings since April 20, 2013 versus the Angels (9 R, 0.2 IP).

Struggling Red Sox try to get on track at Diamondbacks

PHOENIX (AP)  Carson Kelly watched teammate Eduardo Escobar get thrown out at home plate on Nick Ahmed's hit in the bottom of the ninth inning. Kelly was on deck, and the play served as motivation for the Arizona Diamondbacks catcher.
Kelly then drilled a single into the left field corner, scoring Ahmed with two outs to lift the Diamondbacks over the struggling Boston Red Sox 5-4 on Saturday night.
