 Atlanta went 14-5 against the Marlins last season, scoring nearly twice as many runs as them in the 19 games (115-61). The Braves went 8-1 at home in the series, winning the last eight.

 After being swept by the Phillies in three road games to open the season, the Braves earned a three-game home sweep of the Cubs this week. Last year the Braves had a better record on the road (47-34) than at home (43-38).

 The Marlins are 2-5 after being swept by the Mets at home earlier this week (three games). They have allowed six or more runs in all five losses, versus three runs combined in the two wins.

 Martin Prado is batting .500 (8/16) in the young season. The 35 year old hit a career-low .244 last season, including a .194 average through the end of May.

 Nick Markakis had four total hits -- none for extra bases -- through five games this season, before going 5-for-5 with three doubles and five RBI in Thursday's win over the Cubs. It was his second career five-hit game, with the other coming against Atlanta on  July 3, 2011 with the Orioles.

 Kevin Gausman went 5-3 with a 2.87 ERA in 10 starts with the Braves after being traded from Baltimore at last year's deadline. That stretch included a pair of starts against Miami in which he went 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA and .135 batting average allowed.

Kevin Gausman, who played a large role in helping the Atlanta Braves win the National League East division last season, will get his first start of the season against the visiting Miami Marlins on Friday.
Gausman (10-11, 3.92 ERA in 2018) will be opposed by right-hander Pablo Lopez (1-0, 5.06) in the opener of a three-game set at SunTrust Park.
