The Brewers defeated the Dodgers, 4-0, shutting out an opponent for the third time this postseason and taking a 2-1 series lead. The Brewers are the third team all-time to pitch three shutouts in their first six games of a postseason, along with the 1905 Giants and the 1966 Orioles. The Brewers had just one postseason shutout in their history before 2018.

The Dodgers had not been shutout at home in a playoff game since 1983. They had played 50 home postseason games without being shut out, the second-longest streak all-time (Red Sox, 61 from 1918-2013).

Los Angeles' starters have allowed 10 earned runs in 14.1 innings in this series (6.28 ERA) while its relievers have allowed two earned in 11.2 innings (1.54). Milwaukee's starters have allowed one run in 13.0 innings (0.69 ERA) compared to its relievers who have allowed eight runs in 14.0 innings (5.14 ERA).

After hitting three home runs in 366 plate appearances in the regular season, Orlando Arcia has hit three in 20 postseason PAs. He is one of three players in MLB history to hit at least three home runs in the postseason after hitting three or fewer home runs in the regular season, joining Roberto Perez (Cle, 2016) and Willie Randolph (NYY, 1981).

Since joining the Dodgers in 2016, Rich Hill has made eight postseason starts and pitched to a 3.09 ERA. In his last five (since 2017), his ERA is 2.86 -- among the 11 players with at least 20 innings pitched in the last two postseasons, only Masahiro Tanaka, Jon Lester, Lance McCullers, Jr. and Justin Verlander have lower ERAs.

Gio Gonzalez will start tonight for the Brewers after leaving Game 1 following a Manny Machado solo home run that began the third inning. It was the shortest of Gonzalez's seven career postseason starts and the home run was the only hit he allowed. In the live-ball era (since 1920), only 17 pitchers have been pulled from a playoff game with two or fewer innings pitched and one or fewer hits allowed.

LOS ANGELES -- The Milwaukee Brewers' bullpen roared back to life in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series and can now further its influence in Game 4 on Tuesday night.
The Brewers can move one game from their first World Series appearance since 1982 with a victory in a Game 4, and will try to do it on a bullpen day. Left-hander Gio Gonzalez will start the game, but the relievers are expected to get to work early, just as they did when Gonzalez pitched just two innings in Game 1.
