 The Braves finished the season with four losses in their last five games, failing to score more than one run in each of the losses, which cost Atlanta the home-field advantage in this series. However, the Braves and Dodgers were tied for the best road record (47-34) in the National League this season.

 The Dodgers won the one-game tiebreaker with the Rockies to capture the NL West crown for the sixth straight season. Los Angeles has advanced further in the playoffs in each of the last three seasons, falling to Houston in the 2017 World Series, four games to three.

 Atlanta had four players tally more than 150 hits this season (Freddie Freeman, Nick Markakis, Ozzie Albies and Ender Inciarte) while Los Angeles did not have a single hitter reach the 150-hit plateau. Meanwhile, the Dodgers' 235 home runs this season were tied for the third most in NL history.

 In his final tune-up before the playoffs, RHP Mike Foltynewicz allowed one hit and one earned run over five innings to Philadelphia. It was the 18th time this season he went 5.0-plus innings and gave up one earned run or fewer. That total was second in the National League to Jacob deGrom (19).

 LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu posted a 1.15 ERA at Dodger Stadium this season, the lowest mark among hurlers who pitched 50 or more innings at home. Additionally, Ryu is the only pitcher this season who allowed fewer than 1.00 walk per nine innings (0.99 BB/9) in his home ballpark this season (min. 50 IP).

 This season, the Dodgers' win percentage was 84 points lower when facing a right-handed starter (.531) than when facing a left-handed starter (.615). Conversely, the Braves' win percentage was 153 points lower when facing a left-handed starter (.447) compared to when facing a right-handed starter (.600).

LOS ANGELES -- The first plot twist of the National League Division Series already arrived and the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers have not even played a game.
The Dodgers announced that Hyun-Jin Ryu and not Clayton Kershaw will start Game 1 of the series on Thursday at Dodger Stadium, even though Kershaw will be on regular rest after last pitching Saturday in San Francisco.
