The Boston Red Sox swept three games with the Baltimore Orioles in their first series this season. It was the Red Sox first home sweep of the Orioles since late-September 2015, which was also the last season Boston had a winning record at home versus Baltimore.

The Orioles have played only one game in the past three days due to a rainout in Philadelphia.  The one game they played was a 4-1 loss to the Phillies in which the O's managed only a single run, cooling an offense that had scored 51 runs in their previous six games. Only five other teams this season have put up 50 or more in a six-game span.

The Red Sox are 12-12 following their meteoric 17-2 start to begin the season. Since April 21 -- the start of their 24-game stretch of .500 ball -- Boston has the third-lowest on-base percentage and the highest plate-appearances-per-walk figure in MLB.

After a disastrous first start of the season, Kevin Gausman has a 2.30 ERA in his last seven starts. In his most recent start, the left-hander allowed only two earned runs despite surrendering 11 hits to Tampa Bay, becoming just the second starting pitcher this season to throw seven or more innings with more than 10 hits but two or fewer earned runs (Clevinger, Cle).

David Price missed one start due to soreness from carpal tunnel syndrome, but he pitched well in his return, allowing two runs over 5.1 innings.  The left-hander had had an 8.47 ERA across his three starts prior to Boston skipping him in the rotation.

J.D. Martinez has reached base in 21 straight games, dating back to April 25.  Over that stretch, the slugger is hitting .395 with eight home runs.  Only Francisco Lindor is hitting for a higher average (.409) or has more home runs (10) than Martinez over that stretch.

BOSTON -- David Price looked strong in his delayed last start, returning from a diagnosis of mild carpal tunnel syndrome to defeat the Blue Jays in Toronto.
He went 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs and five hits and struck out six to pick up his first victory since April 17.

Price feels right as Red Sox host Orioles

BOSTON (AP)  One strike away from a four-hit shutout, David Price happily settled for a complete game and his strongest outing of the season.
Price struck out eight and held Baltimore to five hits, including two in the ninth when the Orioles broke up the shutout before the Boston left-hander finished them off in a 6-2 victory for the Red Sox on Thursday night.
