 After opening September with 11 consecutive losses, the Giants have rebounded to win four of six, with series victories against the Rockies and the Padres. San Francisco is scoring 2.71 runs per game in September, on pace to be the lowest mark in any month by the team since August 2011.

 The Cardinals have won three of four, and currently possess a 1.5 game lead over the Rockies for the second NL Wild Card spot. Since Mike Shildt took over as manager on July 15, the Cardinals are an NL-best 37-23 (.617).

 Madison Bumgarner will be making his first start in St. Louis since firing 7.2 shutout innings in a 3-0 Giants' victory in Game 1 of the 2014 NLCS. Bumgarner has a 5.02 ERA in 10 starts on the road this season, with the Giants losing seven of those games.

 In his last start, John Gant tied a career-high allowing six earned runs over 4.1 innings against the Dodgers. Prior to that start, Gant had allowed two earned runs or fewer in seven straight starts, posting a 1.60 ERA over that time.

 Paul DeJong has reached base in 13 consecutive games, recording a .531 slugging percentage with three home runs and 11 RBI over that time. DeJong has 39 home runs as a shortstop since 2017, trailing only Trevor Story (56 HR) among NL shortstops.

 Chris Shaw began his career mired in a 1-for-22 (.045) slump over his first 11 games played. However in his last four games, Shaw is batting .538 (7-for-13) with a pair of doubles and three runs driven in.

Few starters in baseball have needed as little cushion this year as St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Miles Mikolas. Monday night's 11-6 victory in Atlanta upped his record to 16-0 when receiving two or more runs of support.
Mikolas gets the call Sunday when St. Louis tries to bolster its National League wild-card playoff hopes with a series sweep of the San Francisco Giants in Busch Stadium.

ST. LOUIS (AP)  Miles Mikolas' outing against the San Francisco Giants was typical, and typical for him is pretty good.
Mikolas won his fourth straight start, Matt Carpenter hit his NL-leading 36th homer and the Cardinals beat the Giants 9-2 to complete a three-game sweep and remain on track for the NL's second wild card.
