 The first place Indians (73-54) will meet the last place Royals (38-90) with 35.5 games in the standings between the two teams. Cleveland is 136-69 (.663) within in the AL Central since 2016, the best record of any team in baseball against their own division over that time.

 Cleveland enters this series having split a four-game set at Fenway Park against the Red Sox despite losing the last two games of the series. The Indians have an 18-24 (.429) record against teams .500 or better, the worst of any division leader in 2018.

The first-place Cleveland Indians will attempt to avoid being swept in a three-game series by the last-place Kansas City Royals when the two teams meet on Sunday afternoon in Kauffman Stadium.
After splitting a tense and competitive four-game series with the Red Sox in Boston on the first leg of a seven-game road trip, the Indians have looked flat in dropping the first two games in Kansas City by a combined score of 12-5, including the Royals beating Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber 7-1 Saturday night.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)  Jason Kipnis had been mired in such a batting slump that the Indians second baseman had resorted to watching old film of himself, trying to discover what had changed in the past couple years.
He finally noticed a subtle, almost imperceptible difference in his hand position, so he rolled up a magazine and began mimicking his old swing in his hotel room. And while it felt a bit odd, and looked just as goofy, Kipnis nevertheless went to sleep feeling as if something had finally clicked.
