 After dropping eight of the first 11 all-time meetings, the Mariners have won 14 of the past 20 dating to June 2000. The teams split a pair of matchups in San Francisco in early April. Dee Gordon went 5-for-9 with two stolen bases and Jean Segura was 4-for-8 with a double for Seattle in that series.

 The Giants have batted .218 with 48 strikeouts in dropping four of their last five games overall. They've also averaged 2.67 runs and hit .183 with 51 strikeouts while losing five of six on the road. Brandon Belt is 1-for-24 over his last six contests, but he went 3-for-4 with a home run versus Seattle on April 4.

 Giants catcher Buster Posey has gone 2-for-17 with no extra-base hits and one RBI over his last five road games. He's also 5-for-28 (.179) with a double and two RBI in seven road games against AL opponents this season. Posey went 2-for-7 with three runs scored in two games versus Seattle in April.

 The Mariners have hit .229 and averaged just 3.17 runs while dropping eight of their last 12 games. Seattle's starting rotation has also struggled, posting a 5.00 ERA during this stretch. Slugger Nelson Cruz has gone 5-for-31 (.161) with no extra-base hits in his last 11 contests.

 James Paxton is expected to return to the mound for the Mariners for the first time since leaving a July 12 start in the first inning and spending time on the DL due to lower back inflammation. The left-hander has gone 4-1 with a 2.81 ERA and 71 strikeouts over 51.1 innings in his last eight home starts.

 Ryon Healy hit a pair of homers in Sunday's win over the White Sox to give him 20 on the season. In 23 games dating to June 23, six of his seven extra-base hits have been home runs. Of the 25 members of this season's 20-homer club, Healy is the only one with fewer than 10 doubles (nine).

SEATTLE (AP)  With the Seattle Mariners struggling to find offense, Jean Segura wasn't going to sit through a long at-bat looking for a perfect pitch. In this situation, the first one was good enough.
Segura chopped the first pitch from Sam Dyson into center field to score Guillermo Heredia with the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, and the Mariners won yet another one-run game by beating the San Francisco Giants 3-2 on Wednesday.
