The Red Sox swept a three-game series at Baltimore, and have now won five consecutive road games. Boston's 24-11 (.686) record is the best 35-game road start by the franchise since starting 27-8 (.771) in 2002.

The Mariners have won four straight games, including a three-game sweep against the Angels. At 44-24, Seattle is 20 games over .500 for the first time since August 24, 2007 (73-53). Only the Marlins had gone longer since being at least 20 games over .500 (Marlins have not been 20 games over .500 since September 28, 2003).

The Red Sox and the Mariners split their season series 3-3 last year. Five of the six games between the two teams featured a shutout, with Boston shutting out Seattle three times and Seattle shutting out Boston twice.

David Price is 5-0 with a 2.89 ERA with 40 strikeouts in 37.1 innings in his last six starts. In seven career starts against Seattle, Price has a 2.62 ERA and has limited opposing batters to a .204 average in 55.0 innings.

In his last home start, Felix Hernandez went a season-high 8.0 innings allowing one run, one walk, and five hits, to go along with seven strikeouts in a 2-1 victory against Tampa Bay. Hernandez has a 4.04 ERA at home compared to a 7.71 road ERA. Among qualified starters, that 3.67 difference in road/home ERA is the largest in baseball.

Yesterday, Mookie Betts hit his 18th home run of the season, and his first since coming back from his DL stint. Betts has scored 54 runs in 50 games this season, which is the second most in any Boston player's first 50 games in the past 100 years (Ted Williams -- 56 runs through 50 player games in 1950).

Nelson Cruz was suffering from migraines when the Seattle Mariners were in Tampa Bay last weekend. He certainly has been causing headaches for opposing pitchers recently.
Cruz, the Mariners' designated hitter, has eight home runs in his past 16 games, during which he has raised his average from .220 to .251. He hit three home runs in a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels this week and will set his sights on Boston Red Sox right-hander Rick Porcello when the teams meet Friday night at Safeco Field.

Mariners' hot Cruz will challenge Red Sox

SEATTLE (AP)  Denard Span came to the plate in the eighth inning, knowing the situation was why the Seattle Mariners traded for him three weeks ago.
The veteran outfielder kept his cool and stroked a pinch-hit double that scored two runs, leading the Mariners to a 7-6 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.
