The Pirates took three of four from the Reds to move to 7-2 on the year, their best nine-game start to a season since also starting the 1993 campaign with a 7-2 record.

The Cubs won three of four in Milwaukee to finish their road trip to begin the season with a 5-4 record. Chicago allowed just seven runs in the series, the fewest it has allowed in a four-game series since holding the Padres to five runs from September 27-30, 2010.

Chicago (6-5) avenged a home-opening loss with a 13-5 victory over the Pirates on Wednesday night. The Cubs racked up 16 hits, which included a pair of home runs by Javier Baez.

Cubs look to hand Pirates first series loss

CHICAGO (AP)  Gregory Polanco and the Pittsburgh Pirates wasted no time in bouncing back from a rout to make an early statement in the National League Central.
Polanco homered twice to help back a third straight solid start by Trevor Williams, and Pittsburgh pulled away from the Chicago Cubs 6-1 on Thursday.
