The Padres won two of three against the Mets in New York earlier this season. San Diego is attempting to win the season series for just the second time since 2010 (the other was 2015).

San Diego won in San Francisco Sunday, 5-2, in the rubber match of the three-game series. The Padres are 15-11 (.577) since June 21, which is the fifth-best winning percentage in MLB over that span.

New York lost at home against Oakland Sunday, 3-2, to snap a four-game winning streak. The Mets are 21-32 (.396) against the NL West since the beginning of 2016, which is the worst mark by an NL team in that span.

Jay Bruce homered Saturday for his 25th on the season. Since 2010, Bruce has tallied 25 or more home runs in seven different seasons, which is the most by any MLB player in that span.

Clayton Richard allowed 11 runs in his last outing, a loss at Colorado. It was tied for the most runs allowed in a game by a Padres pitcher all-time (fifth time) and tied for most in a single game by an MLB pitcher this season (also Jeff Locke).
