The Astros lost to the Cardinals, 8-2, at home yesterday, dropping both games of the series to St. Louis. After sitting just 2.5 games back of Texas in the AL West on the morning of July 25, the Astros have since gone 7-15 (tied for the worst in MLB in that span), falling into 3rd place, 10.0 games back in the division.

The Orioles lost to the Red Sox, 8-1, last night in a rain-shortened game as Boston swept the two-game set (the third rain-shortened game in MLB this season). With the loss, Baltimore now sits in third place in the AL East for the first time this season.

The Astros swept a three-game series between these teams in May, and have won six of the last seven meetings overall (all of which were played in Houston). Since the Astros moved to the AL in 2013, the Orioles are 6-3 against them in Baltimore, with five of those six victories coming by one run.

Joe Musgrove allowed just two runs (both earned) in 7.0 innings against the Blue Jays on Friday. Musgrove is just the seventh Astros' rookie all-time to have a stretch of three games throwing at least 18.0 innings, while recording 20 strikeouts and posting an ERA of 1.50 or lower.

Kevin Gausman gave up two runs (both earned) in 4.0 innings against the Giants on Saturday, picking up his 10th loss of the season in the process. Gausman has gotten an average of 3.52 runs of support this season, which is the lowest among all pitchers on teams over .500 (minimum 100 IP).

Both teams will be comfortable if the game goes to extra innings. The Astros are tied with San Francisco for the most extra-inning wins in MLB with nine, and the Orioles have MLB's second-best record in extra-inning games at 5-2 (.714).

BALTIMORE -- The Houston Astros still have their sights set on a postseason berth and can take another step toward that goal if they take the series against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday at Camden Yards.
After dropping the first game Thursday, Houston bounced back with a pair of convincing victories. While the Astros trail the first-place Texas Rangers by 9 1/2 games, they are within striking distance of a wild card berth 4 1/2 games behind Baltimore.

J.J. Hardy and Chris Davis each hit two of Baltimore's six home runs, Hyun Soo Kim had a career-high four hits and the Orioles beat rookie Joe Musgrove and the skidding Houston Astros 13-5 on Thursday night.
