The Blue Jays forced a decisive Game 5 with an 8-4 win over the Rangers in Texas on Monday. It was just the sixth time in 45 postseason games that Toronto scored at least eight runs and the first time since the Game 6 clincher in the 1993 World Series. The Blue Jays set a franchise postseason record with three home runs and seven extra-base hits in Game 4.

The Rangers will play in their fourth winner-take-all game on Wednesday afternoon. They are 1-2 in the first three tries, with losses in each of their last two such contests (Game 7 2011 World Series and 2012 AL Wild Card Game). Texas hopes to avoid joining the 2001 A's and 2012 Reds as teams to win the first two games of the Division Series on the road before ultimately losing the series.

This will be only the second winner-take-all game for the Blue Jays. They previously lost Game 7 of the 1985 ALCS at home to the Royals. Toronto is looking to become the seventh team to win a best-of-5 series after dropping the first two games, but just the third to do so when playing the first two games at home (2001 Yankees and 2012 Giants).

Marcus Stroman will get the ball for the Blue Jays in Game 5. He ended up with a no decision in Game 2 despite leaving after seven innings with a lead, striking out five and allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits. Stroman (24 years, 166 days) will be the youngest pitcher to start a winner-take-all game since Oakland's Sonny Gray (23, 337) in Game 5 of the 2013 ALDS.

Cole Hamels will make his 15th career postseason start in Game 5. Only CC Sabathia (17) has more postseason starts than Hamels since 2007. The Rangers have won the last 11 games started by Hamels (including postseason), which is the longest such streak for the franchise since winning 14 straight starts by Bobby Witt in 1990.

Kevin Pillar leads the Blue Jays this postseason with a .412 batting average (7-for-17). Pillar had three hits, three RBI, and a home run in Game 4, becoming only the second player in franchise history to hit those marks in a postseason game (Paul Molitor, twice). Pillar's four-game hitting streak to start his postseason career is the second longest by a player who began their MLB career with Toronto (Jesse Barfield, five).

TORONTO (AP)  Jose Bautista wiped out the need for protests or umpire reviews with the Toronto Blue Jays' biggest home run since Joe Carter's historic shot.
Toronto earned its first trip to the American League Championship Series since Carter's World Series-ending drive in 1993, overcoming one of the craziest plays in playoff history when Bautista hit a three-run homer after three Texas Rangers errors for a 6-3 victory Wednesday in the deciding Game 5 of the Division Series.
