National League Game Summary - Cincinnati at Chicago

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Starlin Castro's RBI hit in the bottom of the ninth sent Chicago past Cincinnati by a 4-3 count on Saturday at a soggy Wrigley Field.

Tony Cingrani (0-3) allowed a leadoff double to Kris Bryant, then plunked Miguel Montero ahead of a solid strike to center from Castro that easily plated Bryant with the deciding run.

"That's what gets you to play in October, to win a game like that," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said.

Jason Motte (3-1) gave up two hits in the top of the ninth, but held the Reds scoreless to snag the win.

"It's a tough one to lose, but I'm glad we stuck around and played it through nine," Reds manager Bryan Price said.

Bryant finished 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and scored three times for the Cubs. Montero and Castro both ended up driving in two runs apiece.

Eugenio Suarez slugged a two-run homer for the Reds, with Joey Votto contributing a solo shot in defeat.

Montero hit his ninth homer of the year in the second, one batter after Bryant reached on a leadoff single.

Votto answered with a one-out solo shot in the fourth, but the Cubs countered in the home half when Bryant doubled, Montero singled and the former scored on a Castro grounder.

Rain halted play before the top of the sixth, and the Reds took advantage of the long respite as Skip Schumaker greeted James Russell with a single and Suarez launched a ball deep to left which tied the game, 3-3.

Addison Russell doubled to start the Cubs' eighth, but was picked off ahead of Dexter Fowler's bloop two-bagger to left. Chris Coghlan reached on an infield single which Reds second baseman Kris Negron smothered and left Fowler at third. Anthony Rizzo ended the inning by hitting into a 4-6-3 double play.

Pinch-hitter Chris Dominguez and Billy Hamilton singled with two outs in the ninth, and when Hamilton swiped second, Schumaker had two in scoring position but his groundout continued the stalemate.
