Matthew won't seek 3rd Solheim Cup captaincy

After making history as the first European to captain back-to-back winning Solheim Cup teams, Catriona Matthew announced she won't return for a third stint as Team Europe's leader.

"Two and done," Matthew said, according to the Golf Channel's Amy Rogers.

Europe's victory in Ohio on Monday marked just the second time the team's won the Solheim Cup on U.S. soil.

Matthew led the Europeans to a 14.5-13.5 victory in her home country of Scotland during her first appearance as captain in 2019. Prior to that meeting at Gleneagles, U.S. captain Juli Inkster steered her squad to two straight Solheim Cup wins.

"At Gleneagles, the way it finished and being in front of my home crowd was very special," she said. "This time, winning on American soil wasn't easy. And especially this year with COVID-19 and Europeans not being able to travel made it even sweeter."

A nine-time member of Team Europe as a player, Matthew is more than ready to pass the baton.

"I was lucky enough to play in nine and I've captained two, and I've had a fantastic time," Matthew said. "It's the best week I've had every two years, and to have been involved with it now for over 20 years, I'm sure I'll be there watching, but it's someone else's turn."
