Spanish judge asked to open investigation into alleged tax evasion by Xabi Alonso

Xabi Alonso is the latest footballer to bump heads with the Spanish taxman.

Jose Javier Polo, a Spanish state prosecutor, told the Associated Press on Friday he asked a Spanish judge to open an investigation into alleged tax evasion by Alonso, who joined Real Madrid from Liverpool in 2009 and spent five years with Los Blancos before moving to Bayern Munich.

Polo's office found "evidence" of Alonso defrauding Spain's Tax Agency of €3 million between 2011 and 2013, and it'll be up to a judge to decide whether or not a case is warranted.

During his time at Real Madrid, Alonso won a Champions League title, two La Liga crowns, and two Copa del Rey medals.
