Barcelona fights back to beat Athletic Bilbao, reach Copa del Rey semifinals
Make that three Barcelona victories over Athletic Bilbao in 10 days.
On Wednesday, in the second leg of their tie against Athletic in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals, the Blaugrana defeated the Basque side 3-1 to claim a 5-2 victory on aggregate, and secure its place among the competition's final four for the sixth consecutive year.
In addition to Barcelona's 2-1 win at Athletic in the first leg one week ago, the Catalan club also inflicted a 6-0 thrashing on Ernesto Valverde's side in a La Liga fixture three days earlier.
Inaki Williams, who renewed his contract with Athletic on Thursday following a report that Liverpool was keeping tabs on the Spanish forward, gave Barcelona a early scare, scoring a 12th-minute goal in a first half that saw the Basque troupe dominate its opposition.
In the second half, however, Barcelona - in Barcelona-esque fashion - came to life, as Neymar, Luis Suarez, and Gerard Pique all got their name on the scoreboard at the Camp Nou.
By the match's final moments, Barcelona was simply toying with Athletic.
