Jackson Martinez will miss Colombia's qualifier vs. Argentina due to ankle sprain
Jackson Martinez, struggling to make a positive impression at Atletico Madrid, suffered yet another setback.
The Federacion Colombiana de Futbol (FCF) announced Martinez will miss Colombia's 2018 World Cup qualifier at home to Argentina at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez on Tuesday, as medical exams confirmed the product of Independiente Medellin picked up an ankle sprain in the final moments of Los Cafeteros' 1-1 draw away to Chile.
Martinez made his first start of the qualifying campaign in Chile after manager Jose Pekerman kept the forward on the bench for Colombia's first two fixtures, which included a somewhat fortunate 2-0 victory over Peru and a 3-0 defeat while visiting Uruguay.
Colombia is attempting to rediscover the form that resulted in a quarterfinal appearance at last year's World Cup. A disappointing showing in the Copa America, the aforementioned results in 2018 World Cup qualifying, and the resignation of Luis Bedoya as the FCF's president have some feeling that Pekerman could throw in the towel after Los Cafeteros' qualifier against Argentina.
