Real Madrid, Carvajal agree to 5-year extension
Dani Carvajal has agreed to continue his journey with Real Madrid in signing a five-year contract extension.
The Spanish defender will call the Santiago Bernabeu home until 2020, with hopes of adding to his impressive trophy cabinet following two successful years with the club. Carvajal and Madrid have captured the Champions League, Copa Del Rey, Club World Cup, and the European Super Cup.
The extension is a sign of how far the 23-year-old Carvajal has come since he was sold to Bayer Leverkusen in 2012 amid doubts he could win a spot in the first team.
Following an excellent year in Germany, Madrid triggered the buy-back clause in their agreement with Leverkusen and promptly brought the right-back home.
Carvajal, who joined Madrid's youth academy when he was 11, has been a regular fixture in their weekly team sheet for the past two seasons, and earned his first call-up to the Spanish national team in August 2014.
He will, however, face tough competition to keep his place after Los Blancos secured the services of talented Brazilian right-back Danilo from FC Porto.
