Neymar makes most obvious comment of all-time: 'Messi deserves' 2015 Ballon d'Or
Neymar, formerly of Barcelona and the Brazilian national team, is giving up his career as one of the best attacker in football to assume the role of Captain Obvious.
Maybe. Probably. Alright no, but he may as well after this comment.
The 23-year-old, speaking after his country's first match at the 2015 Copa America - a 2-1 win over Peru - said his South American peer and club teammate Lionel Messi deserves to be bestowed with the fifth Ballon d'Or trophy of his career for his incredible exploits this year.
"This year the best in the world is no longer up for grabs," Neymar said to Dermot Corrigan from ESPNFC. "Messi deserves it, for all he has done. We will have to see if I can get into the top three."
Messi scored 35 goals in as many matches in the calendar year, helping Barcelona win a treble and being responsible for some of the most outstanding highlights in recent memory.
Assuming he doesn't simply stop playing for the rest of 2015, only a meteor destroying the Earth could stop the diminutive Argentine from claiming the honor.
