Cristiano Ronaldo's 50th goal of the season on Saturday was a milestone in itself, but the Real Madrid forward's tally had added significance.
Ronaldo's strike gave him 50 goals in all competitions for the fifth straight season, making him the first La Liga player to accomplish the feat.
After clanging a penalty off the woodwork in the 67th minute of Real Madrid's 3-1 victory over Malaga, Ronaldo made up for it with a clinching goal in injury time.
The goal also gave Ronaldo 300 in European Club play, scoring 84 with Manchester United and 216 with Real Madrid. He became the fifth player to achieve the mark in the five major European Leagues.
