VIDEO: Barcelona's Messi, Neymar destroy Elche defence
Lionel Messi and Neymar will haunt the dreams of Elche supporters after the pair turned Saturday's match into an absolute blowout win for Barcelona.
The South Americans put the game out of reach, finding the back of the net on two plays that almost mirrored each other. Messi orchestrated each attack to set Neymar up with clear chances in front of the Elche goal.
The first goal saw Messi demonstrate great patience as the Argentine held the ball up and ran towards defenders until Neymar freed himself. Messi's through ball found the Brazilian for the easy finish while defenders hopelessly appealed for an offside.
The second came two minutes later on an almost identical play. But this one had a higher degree of skill and difficulty.
With his vision once again focused on Neymar, Messi lobbed a perfect pass over defenders and into the box for Neymar to brilliantly volley the ball and give Barca a 4-0 lead.
The carnage didn't stop there. Both players helped Barcelona increase the lead to 6-0 when Messi scored his second of the match and Neymar assisted Pedro's goal in the final minutes of the match.
