David Moyes officially introduced as Real Sociedad manager, happy to join 'best league in the world'
Real Sociedad officially unveiled David Moyes as its new manager on Thursday.
Moyes, whose tenure as Manchester United manager ended with his firing in April, was all smiles as he described his desire to coach outside of England and revealed the options available to him following his dismissal from Old Trafford.
"To be completely fulfilled as a coach, you have to try different cultures. I’ve always wanted to work abroad," the Scottish manager told reporters, as transcribed by the Daily Mail.
"I never had any doubt (that I would get back into football). I had several offers to manage in the Premier League."
Moyes went on to give his assessment of La Liga and its place among the top leagues in the world, especially when comparing it to the Premier League where he spent over a decade of his career as a manager.
"This is the best league in the world, in my opinion," Moyes revealed.
"This is the opportunity to manage in La Liga," he added. "I think it has overtaken the PL because of the quality of the teams, getting regularly into the latter stages of the Champions League."
Moyes's deal with Real Sociedad is a far cry from the six-year contract he signed with United prior to last season, as the Spanish squad have only inked the former Everton manager to an 18-month contract.
"I had the choice. The president gave me the opportunity," Moyes said. "But I had a six-year contract at United and I lasted nine months. So don’t get too caught up in the length of the contract. I don’t pay much attention to that."
The next step for Moyes is bringing in his own coaching staff, as he admitted there's no shortage of candidates who would love to follow in his footsteps to Spain.
"I will add staff in time. I can’t tell you how many people want to come and work here. I can't tell you how many players want to come and work here."
His first game in charge will come against Deportivo on Nov. 22 as he attempts to guide Real Sociedad out of their difficult position in the standings. Moyes's new squad currently sit in 15th place with nine points through 11 matches.
