Zinedine Zidane faces 6-month ban for lack of coaching badges
While Zinedine Zidane is officially designated as the assistant coach for the Real Madrid B team, the former World Cup champion could face a six-month ban if Spain's Competitions Committee proves he's performing the duties usually assigned to the first coach without the proper coaching license.
Acting as the first coach without the required badges carries a penalty of being banned between four to 16 games or one to six months if found guilty.
Spain’s national association of coaches lodged the initial complaint at the beginning of the season. It's believed that various forms of evidence have been submitted which indicate the Frenchman is acting beyond the realm of his official job description, the Daily Mail reports.
Santiago Sanchez is documented as the team's first coach.
A level 3 national coaching diploma is the primary requirement to coach in Spain. Zidane has yet to achieve this status, and it's unknown whether he has begun the process.
Zidane was named the assistant coach for Real Madrid B, also known as Real Madrid Castilla, in July after serving as Carlo Ancelotti's assistant coach with Real Madrid in La Liga the previous season.
