Krkic, once considered an elite attacking prospect and tipped to accomplish big things in Spain, has bounced between Barcelona and multiple loan spells since making his debut with the Blaugrana in 2007.
He's scored 26 goals in over 120 league appearances for the Spanish club, but spent last season out on loan at Ajax, where he could only muster 5 goals in 32 matches.
Krkic has also spent time in Italy, with both Roma and AC Milan on his rather lengthy resume.
Despite his inability to make good on his potential at Barcelona, the move is a very intriguing one for Stoke, and manager Mark Hughes' enthusiasm over the deal should come as no surprise.
"Anyone who knows European football will be aware of him as a player and the fact that he sees his future at Stoke City is really exciting and an endorsement of the Club itself, Hughes said, per the club's official website.
"He's desperate to prove himself in the Premier League and we're pleased to be able to offer him that platform."
Krkic becomes the fifth signing for the Potters this summer, joining Mame Biram Diouf, Steve Sidwell, Phil Bardsley and Dionatan Teixeira at the Britannia.
