UEFA hit Real Madrid with partial stadium ban for 1 match over fan racism
Real Madrid have been ordered by UEFA to partially close two sections of their stadium for their first European match next season as punishment for racist behavior by fans during the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich last month.
"The fight against racism is a high priority. UEFA has a zero-tolerance policy towards racism and discrimination, both on the pitch and in the stands," read a statement released by the governing body, via the BBC.
"More specifically, sectors 120 and 122 of the stadium will be closed for the club's next UEFA competition home game. Real Madrid are obliged to display a banner with the wording 'No to Racism' in those sectors."
Real Madrid went on to defeat the German champions 1-0 in that match (and 5-0 on aggregate) before besting city rivals Atletico in the final of the competition.
