Pep Guardiola says he left Barcelona for personal reasons
Pep Guardiola wants to set the record straight.
In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Guardiola disputed claims that he left Barcelona because he could not longer 'lift' the club's players.
"Maybe I did not explain myself well,” Guardiola said, via ESPN FC's Stephan Uersfeld. “It was a purely personal matter. I felt the moment had come."
Guardiola captured 14 trophies in four seasons with Barcelona.
Moments after winning his first Bundesliga title on Tuesday, the iconic manager took time to thank the players that helped him reach the upper echelon of coaching.
“They are responsible for all the successes we achieved, just like those of Bayern," he said. "Barca’s players motivate themselves. I did not teach Xavi [Hernandez] or [Andres] Iniesta to play.
“We coaches are there to give them a hand, but they have played that way for 20 years. Coaches do not make players play well. They played well enough without me.”
