Valencia beat Girona for 1st league win of season
Valencia earned their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Girona on Saturday.
The Catalan side have now suffered three consecutive defeats, including a 1-0 loss at Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League debut on Wednesday.
Juanpe deflected Valencia winger Luis Rioja's shot into his own net after 56 minutes and Dani Gomez doubled the lead with a low strike from long range.
Last season's surprise package Girona, who finished third, failed to impress at Mestalla and sit provisionally 13th.
Ruben Baraja's Valencia climbed off the bottom of the table after four defeats in their first five matches and are 18th.
Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who has signed a deal with Liverpool, was delighted with the win.
"This victory is very important because we started very badly... the first five games were very hard," said the Georgia international.
