Report: Theo Hernandez released without charge over alleged sexual assault
Atletico Madrid left-back Theo Hernandez was reportedly released after being questioned over an alleged sexual assault in Marbella, Spain, according to Marca.
The 19-year-old French full-back was reportedly released due to contradictions within the complainant's account. The young woman apparently accused Theo of sexually assaulting her inside his parked car after they had drinks together at a nightclub. She alleged that, after they started to engage in sexual activity, she asked him to stop and he didn't comply, resulting in a struggle which lasted several minutes before she was thrown out of the vehicle.
The complainant, whom AS identifies as 20 years old, reportedly returned to the nightclub and was insulted by a friend of Theo's, then went home before visiting a hospital and the police station.
Theo denied the allegations in his statement to investigators, according to AS.
In May, Theo was called up to France's under-21 team but was nowhere to be seen. Manager Sylvain Ripoll said: "Of the 22 players I called up, I'm only missing Theo. He hasn't given any explanations, he just isn't here." He wants to play for Spain, according to Marca's David G. Medina.
Theo, who joined Deportivo Alaves on a season-long loan from Atleti, allegedly completed a medical at Real Madrid, and is set to cross the capital and join Los Blancos once his release clause of €24 million is paid.
