Atletico Madrid's Godin expected to be sidelined with thigh knock
Atletico Madrid will likely need to find a replacement for Diego Godin at the back after the Uruguayan defender was diagnosed with a "muscle injury" in his right thigh, the team confirmed Thursday.
The injury, which was discovered during an MRI, is expected to keep Godin out of action for the next two weeks, according to beINSports.
The 30-year-old was hurt in the 49th minute of Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Barcelona in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal.
Turning to young centre-back Jose Gimenez is not an option, as the Uruguayan is nursing a thigh injury of his own.
Meanwhile, Lucas Hernandez, another option to deputise Godin at the back, is dealing with a domestic abuse case, which could result in a prison sentence if he's found guilty.
Atletico hosts Celta Vigo on Saturday, as Diego Simeone's men attempt to retain their fourth-place position in the standings.
