Ronaldo's €300M Chinese offer is 'not right,' says Conte
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte refuses to believe a Chinese club offered €300 million (£257 million) for Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Super agent Jorge Mendes claimed in an interview with Sky Sport Italia that the powerful Portuguese poacher also stood to earn more than €100 million per season to play in East Asia.
Mendes said Ronaldo turned it down because money "isn't everything" to the 31-year-old.
The revelation comes after a year in which several prominent footballers accepted big-money moves to the Chinese Super League, but it's not something Conte likes to see.
"I think it's an incredible story. We are talking about a lot, lot, lot of money," the Italian said, according to PA Sport. "I don't want to trust in this, I don't want to believe in this, because I think we are talking about an amount of money which is not right."
The likes of Oscar, who swapped Chelsea for Shanghai SIPG earlier in December for a reported £60 million, have upset onlookers who believe the players put money before ambition.
Carlos Tevez is also believed to be earning £615,000 a week at Shanghai Shenhua, which is a big concern for Conte.
"I saw the last contract, the last contract with Carlos Tevez. I think we are talking about a lot of money. This type of offer is incredible, and it's very difficult for the players to say no," added the Chelsea boss.
"But I must be honest, I think it's not right. You must have respect for the money. I don't agree with this situation."
The Chinese Super League spent more than its Premier League rivals during last year's January window, and is set to do the same this time around.
