Atletico's Fernandez likely out for season with torn ACL

Atletico Madrid confirmed midfielder Augusto Fernandez suffered a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Sunday's win over Deportivo and will undergo surgery "shortly."
Although the team didn't disclose a timetable for his return, it's believed such a severe injury will sideline Fernandez for the remainder of the season.
The injury occurred 19 minutes into Atletico's 1-0 win over Deportivo, when a seemingly innocuous challenge sent the Argentine to the ground, where he writhed in pain.
Meanwhile, Jose Gimenez, who was also injured during the first half Sunday, has been diagnosed with a "adductor longus of the right leg," and will be examined further to determine the extent of his injury.
