Busquets hopes to retire at Barca after signing new contract until 2021
Months after agreeing to a new contract, Sergio Busquets put pen to paper Thursday on an agreement that will keep him at Barcelona until at least 2021.
The contract, which was initially announced in May, also includes an option to extend the 28-year-old a further two years until 2023.
His contract also includes a $200-million buyout clause.
"I'm excited to remain connected to the club of my life," Busquets told Barca TV, as translated by ESPNFC. "I hope we can celebrate many successes during this new contract, like those before it. This is the best team in the world.
"I'm grateful for (the club's) confidence, but it must be given and taken. I try to improve and work as hard as they come with each day.
"It would be a dream (to retire at Barca), of course I'd like to. We must go year by year because football's like this. It depends on how you're feeling and whether injuries respect you, but hopefully it'll be so."
Busquets has appeared in just under 400 matches since signing with Barcelona in 2008.
He's also played a critical role in helping the Spanish giants win six La Liga titles, three Champions League trophies, and several other pieces of silverware.
