Report: Real Madrid hopes to sign Andre Gomes for close to €50M
Real Madrid is reportedly attempting to strike a deal with Valencia over Andre Gomes.
Valencia had been hoping to sell Gomes for around €65 million, while Real Madrid is aiming to sign the Portuguese playmaker for closer to €50 million up front with €5 million to €10 million in performance-related extras, according to Carlos Carpio of Marca.
Real Madrid apparently views Gomes as the successor to Luka Modric, who Los Blancos have struggled to replace when injured and who will turn 31 years old in September.
When Real Madrid allegedly tried to sign Gomes last year, Valencia responded by claiming that no discussions would take place until an €80-million offer was on the table. However, since Los Che finished 12th in La Liga last season, the club finds itself in a very different position, unable to offer European football to the 22-year-old.
Gomes tallied three goals and three assists in La Liga last season and went on to make five appearances at Euro 2016, where he helped Portugal win a major tournament for the first time in its history despite not taking the pitch in the final.
Other clubs reportedly interested in Gomes include Juventus, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and Chelsea.
