Report: Real Madrid negotiating new contract with Bale

Real Madrid is negotiating fresh terms to Gareth Bale's contract, with a new deal expected to be reached within the next three weeks, according to The Telegraph's John Percy.

The La Liga giant will likely reward the Welsh superstar with a weekly salary exceeding his current £300,000 stipend.

The raise comes during Gale's impressive run of performances at Euro 2016. He's guided Wales to the quarter-finals of a major international competition for the first time since 1958, scoring a tournament-high three goals in the process.

The 26-year-old still has three years left on his present deal with Los Blancos, but they are apparently eager to appease the player they acquired in 2013 for a record £85-million fee.

The news will put a dent in Manchester United's hopes for a move. Reports suggested last summer that United had targeted Bale as part of an overhaul at Old Trafford. However, there were never any official negotiations between the two clubs.

For the time being, Bale is focusing on making history with Wales in Friday's clash against Belgium.

"We know about the quarter-final in 1958 but since then it's definitely the biggest game in Welsh football," he said.
