Athletic Bilbao honoured Paolo Maldini with its One Club Man award at half-time of Sunday's match against Celta Vigo, with more than 40,000 people at the San Mames showing their appreciation for the AC Milan legend.
Maldini, who met the Bilbao players and toured the stadium prior to the ceremony, said earlier this week he has always admired the club for its decision to field players exclusively from the Basque region of Spain.
The former defender received a standing ovation for his 24-year commitment to Milan, where he won five European Cups and seven Serie A titles.
Matthew Le Tissier, who spent his entire career at Southampton, took home the first edition of the award last year.
