Andre Villas-Boas has marked his return to management with a move to the French Riviera.
A year and a half after taking a break from football, Villas-Boas was named Marseille boss on Tuesday, succeeding Rudi Garcia following the club's disappointing fifth-place finish.
Garcia was sacked after OM failed to qualify for European competition for a third time in five seasons.
Villas-Boas has penned a two-year deal with the club.
"We are delighted to hire a coach whose success is recognized at the highest level in Europe and in the world," Marseille owner Frank McCourt said in a team statement.
Villas-Boas, 41, last worked for Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG before leaving to pursue a career in off-road racing. He raced in the famed Dakar Rally before withdrawing with a back injury following the fourth stage of the 2018 installment.
Winner of a Primeira Liga-Europa League double while at Porto, Villas-Boas enjoyed two spells in London with Chelsea and Tottenham before moving east to win the Russian league with Zenit St. Petersburg in 2015.
