Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas won the first race of the delayed Formula 1 season after taking the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Finn led every lap after starting from the top spot. It was his eighth career F1 victory.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finished second and McLaren's Lando Norris placed third to round out the podium. Reigning F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, who was given a five-second penalty for a late driving infraction, ended up in fourth.

Norris' third-place showing represents the first podium finish of his F1 career.

"I'm speechless," Norris said following the race. "There were a few points where I thought I'd fudged it up a bit ... but I managed to get past Perez and end up on the podium! I'm so happy and so proud of the team."

Prior to the race, 14 of the 20 drivers knelt in an act of solidarity against racism.

Following an appeal from Red Bull, Hamilton was demoted from the second starting spot to the fifth for speeding under yellow flags during qualifying Saturday.
