Tyler Adams scored his first international goal to give the United States a 1-0 victory over Mexico in Nashville on Tuesday.

Adams' tally, a 71st-minute strike that was teed up by Antonee Robinson, was the lone goal in a testy friendly at Nissan Stadium; El Tri finished the contest with 10 men after Angel Zaldivar was shown a red card for a brutal tackle on Wil Trapp in the 66th minute.

Zaldivar's challenge came shortly after tempers flared between the two North American rivals, as U.S. defender Matt Miazga kicked off a kerfuffle by mocking the height of Diego Lainez.

The 18-year-old Lainez, who stands five-foot-five, was one of the standout players in the match.

The loss signals Mexico's fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions, while the Americans, still under the tutelage of interim boss Dave Sarachan, will be buoyed by the performance of their young side.
