Twitter reacts to Wayne Rooney breaking England's scoring record
It was always a matter of when, rather than if, Wayne Rooney would surpass Sir Bobby Charlton's tally of 49 goals for England.
He levelled the record on Saturday against San Marino with a penalty and then, on Tuesday against Switzerland - and once again from the spot - trumped the record which has stood since 1970.

It wasn't a stellar performance from England in the 2-0 win, but Wembley rose to salute its captain when he blasted his penalty into the roof of the net on 84 minutes.
Twitter also wasted no time in congratulating the Manchester United and England captain on his achievement:
