Croatia's Perisic contracts COVID-19 ahead of last-16 scuffle with Spain
Croatia's Ivan Perisic has tested positive for COVID-19 and will self-isolate for 10 days, the Croatian Football Federation announced Saturday.
The Inter Milan winger will miss Monday's last-16 clash with Spain and a potential quarterfinal encounter with either France or Switzerland next Friday.
The rest of the Croatian players, staff, and delegation members tested negative.
"Medical staff isolated Ivan from the other members of the national team and immediately and thoroughly informed competent epidemiological authorities about the situation, providing evidence of complying with all the necessary measures aimed at protection against the spread of coronavirus," the federation's statement read.
Perisic has scored nine goals in his last 14 appearances at major international tournaments, including during Croatia's group finale against Scotland on Tuesday.
Scotland's Billy Gilmour was ruled out of that fixture due to COVID-19, but none of his teammates isolated after the midfielder's positive test. However, England's Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell are currently self-isolating because they interacted with Gilmour in a match four days before the Croatia-Scotland fixture.
