Report: Arsenal interested in signing Monchengladbach midfielder Xhaka
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to pay a €43-million fee to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka in the summer, according to Sky Sports' affiliate in Germany.
Despite calls for him to leave the Emirates at the end of the season, Wenger is reportedly preparing his plans for the next campaign.
The Frenchman regards Xhaka as a viable long-term replacement for the likes of Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta, who have both missed significant time with injuries over the past few months.
The 23-year-old is currently tied to Monchengladbach on a contract until 2019, but such a gargantuan offer from the Gunners would allow the German club to make a substantial profit. Xhaka cost just €8.5 million to acquire from Basel in 2012, and he has already made more than 100 Bundesliga appearances for Die Fohlen.
