Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial will miss Manchester United's trip to Watford
Louis van Gaal will be short on options at Vicarage Road.
Speaking ahead of Manchester United's Premier League fixture at Watford, the Dutch manager revealed that Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial are among five players who will be unable to take the pitch on Saturday, stating that the former is ill while the latter needs more time to recover from a foot injury.
"Rooney came back ill after the break," Van Gaal said, according to the Guardian. "I have only seen him once, the day after the internationals, and then he was at home. I don't think he can play."
Regarding Martial's injury, Van Gaal said, "It's not so long (for him). It's a matter of time. Maybe he could have played tomorrow (Saturday)."
In addition to Rooney and Martial, United will be without Michael Carrick, who hurt his ankle during England's 2-0 defeat away to Spain one week ago but whose injury, according to Van Gaal, "is not so heavy." Marouane Fellaini is dealing with a calf injury, and Antonio Valencia is recovering from foot surgery that could reportedly leave him out of commission for five months.
