Liverpool's Joe Gomez has torn ACL, could miss 9 months
New Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has only been working with his new squad for a matter of days, but he already has to deal with a significant injury to his backline.
Full-back Joe Gomez requires surgery on the ACL in his right knee after sustaining an injury playing for England's Under-21 side on Tuesday, the German gaffer confirmed to the club website. The youngster underwent a scan on Wednesday, and it's expected that Gomez will be out of action for up to nine months.
Gomez, 18, was signed from Charlton ahead of the season, and instantly established himself as the team's first-choice left back under former manager Brendan Rodgers.
After starting the Reds' opening five matches, the teenager was relegated to a spot on the bench for the loss to Manchester United, but retained his place in a pair of Europa League fixtures.
In his stead, Spaniard Alberto Moreno will assume the starting role.
