Bastian Schweinsteiger's international duty with the German national team came to a premature end after he picked up an injury before the country's match against the Republic of Ireland.
The Manchester United midfielder suffered an unspecified injury during pre-game warm-ups and was subsequently ruled out of the contest, the German Football Association announced.
Schweinsteiger will likely undergo tests to reveal the extent of the ailment.
Manchester United has yet to comment on the injury, but Schweinsteiger could return to England in order for the team's medical staff to assess him.
